For the installation ‘That’s all for now’ I created a quiet, softer space within our graduate show where you could feel safe and held, within the same section that I worked in throughout the Drawing Year. It became a manifestation of my journey with grief and loss, navigating it from a place of curiosity and gratitude rather than sadness.
The panel of drawings titled ‘Real Observations’ is a dialogue between intuition and archive. Inspired by a board of Polaroid photos that my Granpa kept on display in his living room, I collated family photos and video clips and remade them using my personal colour language. The use of soft pastel and intentional white space allude to the fickleness of memory and the comfort that can come with it.
The long hanging works titled ‘The waves become less frequent’ and ‘As ondas fanse menos frecuentes’ look at my parents and how I have watched them navigate their own losses over the years. There is also text I wrote over the summer within the work exploring grief as a body of water, with translations in Gallego by my mum. The altar table features objects relating to my paternal grandparents, including the Domino set I would play against my Granpa with.
The work was on display from 4-14 December 2024 at Space Studios as part of our end of year 'Studio Show', curated by the Drawing Year 2024. For more information and available works, please get in touch.
